A Wee Green Poem for a Green Day

from Kay Ryan

(i had to read it three times. then it made me feel weepy.)

Green Behind the Ears

I was still slightly
fuzzy in shady spots
and the tenderest lime.
It was lovely, as I
look back, but not
at the time. For it is
hard to be green and
take your turn as flesh.
So much freshness
to unlearn.

Oh no. I totally missed that. :) I'm so slow when it comes to poetry.

sammmmmmmmmmmmmm. i think it's just about growing up, and i suppose sam's theory is included in that, but i never thought of it that way.

Sort of thought like Sam, but dismissed it for greens maturing in the garden. They take their turn as flesh in our house. Guess they wouldn't be looking back though. They are gone.
